Research in the digital age requires a different set of skills than it did in the past. Knowing how to navigate across a variety of interfaces, the term "transliteracy" has been coined to describe the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from handwriting and printed material (think civil war diaries and letters) to databases, podcasts, and social networks (yes, FaceBook) via a variety of tools from a pencil to a laptop or even a mobile phone. The ability to know how to access, evaluate and use information and media is the key to success for the student of today. Perhaps most important is the ability to sift through all of the available resources with efficiency to locate the most credible and reliable information to solve a problem or complete a task.
